Virtu is an extensive, strategic area control game in the atmosphere of Renaissance Italy. The turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Columbus discovers America, Vasco da Gama sails to India, Copernicus writes his work On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres, and Michelangelo tries to create frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. In this time of discoveries and emerging humanism, Italy plays a special role. On the Apennine Peninsula, the influence of the great powers has declined, and the city-states of that region Florence, Venice, Milan, Rome and Naples are entering the fight for dominance. As their leaders, you will be challenged to make them local powers. Manage your city while maintaining your economy, culture, and military. Present yourselves as people of the Renaissance, be patrons of the arts and assert your rights through diplomacy. However, if necessary, do not be afraid to use force, because sometimes only it can bring the desired results. Virtu is an asymmetrical game. Here, each of the five available factions has its own strengths and weaknesses. There are many paths to victory, and there are practically no elements of randomness.
Family prestige
When you enter the game of Virtu, you will be at the head of one of five powerful dynasties: the Aragon of Naples, the Sforzas of Milan, the Medici of Florence, the Doge of Venice or the Borgia of Rome. Your primary goal will be to have as many Prestige Points as possible, which you will earn successively for: controlled Cities, Patronage progress, Religious Influence level, Military Trophies earned, Political Alliances with great powers (Kingdom of France, Ottoman Empire, Holy Roman Empire) and the operation of certain cards and tiles.
 
Chambers and Vestibules
The game is divided into Years (rounds), consisting of two phases. During Spring, you perform actions, then resolve Sieges and set the Order of the Turn. During Winter, on the other hand, you pay your pay, recruit Soldiers, and form Alliances. Your command centers will be Palaces, i.e. Action boards with Chambers printed with Management, Patronage, Trade, Takeover, Maneuver and Intrigue actions. On the edges of the boards there are Vestibules, where you will place the acquired Courtiers cards. In turn, the tiles you earn will go above your boards to the so-called Sphere of Influence.
Empire management
At the beginning of the Spring phase, you move the Action marker by up to 2 spaces from one Chamber to another, performing the action assigned to that Chamber. For each action, you need certain resources, such as Florins, a Crown, a Cross or a Ship. You will obtain them from tiles or cards located in the Chambers themselves (Action and Improvement cards). If you run out of resources, you can use the resources on the Courtiers cards and then turn them over to the depleted side. The courtiers will become active again when you visit them, i.e. when the Action marker passes their Vestibule.
