Winnie-the-Pooh Book - description

Winnie-the-Pooh Book. Pooh's House.
Step into the Hundred Acre Wood, where the world's most famous bear embarks on fascinating adventures with his friends. The animals, endowed with human traits, amuse and entertain through their naivety on one hand and a philosophical approach to life on the other. The extraordinary illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard and the excellent translation by Irena Tuwim have made the books about Christopher Robin, Pooh, Eeyore, and Piglet favorites among children and teenagers for many years.
Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956) was an English writer, best known as the author of the books: Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928). He was born in London as the third son of the headmaster of a private school for boys, Henley House. After graduating with high marks, he pursued studies at the University of Cambridge, where, under the influence of a teacher, the well-known science fiction author Herbert George Wells, he decided to become a writer. After finishing school, he tried to make a living by writing articles. It went better for him when, in 1906, he began regular collaboration with the magazine Punch. In 1913 he married the owner's niece, Dorothy De Selincourt.
After the war, during which Milne fought at the front and from which he brought back only the worst memories, a period of literary successes began for the writer. In 1920, his plays started to be performed, and in October, his only son Christopher Robin was born, known to American readers of Winnie-the-Pooh as Chris.
Ernest Howard Shepard (1879-1976) was born in Lodsworth, Sussex, spending his childhood in London. Following in his grandfather's footsteps, he began drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil. When he was 10 years old, his mother died, and the family moved to Hammersmith. There he attended St. Paul's School. Later, thanks to a scholarship, he continued his studies at the Royal Academy Schools, where he met his first wife, Florence Chaplin. During World War I, he attained the rank of major and was awarded a medal for bravery on the battlefield. Shortly after returning from the war, he was invited to a permanent collaboration with the weekly Punch, where he met Alan Alexander Milne. He is best remembered for his illustrations for children's books, such as Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, When We Were Very Young, Now We Are Six (A.A. Milne), The Wind in the Willows (Kenneth Grahame), and many more.
